In the video series for BBC, Big Oil v the World , the creators interviewed scientists of Exxon, independent scientists, politicians and activists, and researched thousands of documents. The films uncover the truth that the fossil fuel industry was well aware of the damage to the atmosphere that exploration, extraction, refining, and production was causing.
This three-part video series is the story of what the fossil fuel industry knew about climate change more than four decades ago.
"Scientists who worked for the biggest oil company in the world, Exxon, reveal the warnings they sounded in the 1970s and early 1980s about how fossil fuels would cause climate change – with potentially catastrophic effects. Drawing on thousands of newly discovered documents, the film goes on to chart in revelatory and forensic detail how the oil industry went on to mount a campaign to sow doubt about the science of climate change, the consequences of which we are living through today."
Denial, Doubt, and Delay have gotten us where we are and Big Oil is still working hard to mislead the public - 'natural' gas is a bridge fuel, the demand is high so they must produce more, the trees and nature need CO2 so there is no problem, climate change is a hoax, fracking is harmless and the water is fine - and continue to explore and extract with impunity.
