Song Writing Workshop

Where: Shatford Centre, 760 Main St. Penticton, BC

When: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Join musicians and song-writers Maiya Robbie and Tavis Weir for a creative exploration of environmental and climate issues through the lens of songwriting and poetry. Participants will learn some basics as well as have an opportunity to create/start a piece or have an existing piece mentored. This workshop is for ages 16 through 25 (exceptions considered).

$10 workshop fee includes Saturday evening performance.

Evening Performance - "The Planet can Save Itself"

Where: Shatford Centre, 760 Main St. Penticton, BC

When: 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Musical evening with well-known local musicians Maiya Robbie and Tavis Weir, joined by special guests and workshop participants.

Admission is $20.50 or $30.75 for Saturday & Sunday performances (includes handling fee)

Featured Artists

Maiya Robbie is a well-known songwriter and performer who’s music features crafted poetic lyricism and an authentic, original voice. Maiya currently teaches at Penticton Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and is teacher and creative director of Little Tree Music Together.

Tavis Weir is a Canadian songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Penticton. Tavis’ original music features effortless vocal melodies held up by an intricate web of fingerpicking guitar or the rhythms of clawhammer banjo.  Tavis currently teaches guitar at Penticton Academy of Music.

Tavis and Maiya perform as solo artists, as a duo, and in collaborate with many other musicians and bands, including most recently, The Screendoors.

Improv Theatre Workshop

Where: Shatford Centre, 760 Main St. Penticton, BC

When: 1:00pm - 3:30pm

Join Vancouver comedy duo Tom Hill and Devin Mackenzie as they lead you through an introduction to improvisation, and how you can use these skills to become a more thoughtful and confident communicator. Talking about climate change won’t be so intimidating any more! Tom and Devin are experienced improv instructors, comedy writers and actors.

$10 workshop fee (includes evening performance). For ages 15-200.

How can you talk about climate change without getting depressed? Come and find out with talented Vancouver comedy actors Devin Mackenzie and Tom Hill along with local improv actors from Peach Gravy Theatre. Expect the unexpected – improve theatre, games, and maybe even a sing-along.

Hip.Bang! are a comedy duo whose playful, absurd comedy has delighted audiences worldwide. Tom Hill and Devin Mackenzie have been featured at Just For Laughs, Comedy Central in Los Angeles, were Canadian Comedy Award nominees, and staff writers for CBC Radio’s The Irrelevant Show. In 2013 Hip.Bang! co-founded the school Blind Tiger Comedy in Vancouver with Canadian Comedy Award winners The Sunday Service.

Devin Mackenzie is a comedian, writer, teacher, storyteller, and television actor hailing from Naramata. Tom Hill is a theatre maker, actor, director and producer from Regina now, based in Vancouver. When they are not performing, you can catch Tom and Devin making waves on video. Check them out at

Peach Gravy Theatre Cooperative has been performing and teaching improv in Penticton for two years. They offer high-energy performances and fun interaction with audiences.
